Deliver reforms, not stale soundbites - Ong tells PM

      Zikri KamarulzamanPublished: Feb 26, 2024 9:58 AM | Updated: Feb 26, 2024 10:30 AM

Former lawmaker Ong Kian Ming has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the government to focus on delivering results instead of “stale” soundbites.

This is after Anwar, at an event yesterday, said if monies stolen from the country were returned, then it could immediately be redistributed to help the public.

Ha ha ha ha. To those who believed in Anwar, I have only this to say: padan muka. Remember the camp saying ringgit would hit the roof the moment Anwar became PM. Verdict: All of you have been sodomised.

Anwar is a disappointment for someone that most of us thought would be the saviour Malaysia has been waiting for. He turned out to be more or less the same as the previous PMs, mostly interested in self preservation rather than delivering the promised reforms. He seemed more suited as the President of Hamas.

      03:01 PM, 26 Feb 2024

Couldn't care less for all these lofty reforms. Pls address the bread and butter issues.

Kudos to you OKM, for your honest take on the PM's stale soundbites which he unashamedly repeats like an old record. if he meant "recovering stolen money" by taking action against Daim and TDM - appears to me that he is trying to be a modern day Robin Hood, by taking from the rich to distribute to the poor, Easy job, no need to slog or use your brains to increase the government's coffer. Recovering stolen money cannot be done overnight - if he intends to recover from Daim and TDM - it involves a tedious long-drawn legal process. In the meantime, what has the PM got on his plate on the economy besides promoting his bumiputers economic agenda? OKM, a check on your qualification is impressive - you are a Fulbright scholar, a PhD holder in political science from Duke University, USA, you hold a master's degree in economics from Cambridge University and a degree in economics from London School of Economics. Prior to you were an ASEAN scholar who completed his "O" and "A" levels in Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College. Singapore. I can therefore understand your frustration at the inefficiency of the PM and his government because for you solving problems of any kind is a an easy feat which should have been addressed and solved "yesterdau". Having said that, do please continue to speak for us.?

PMX, please teach the Rakyat how to ' fish', rather than giving them ' fishes' to eat. " Berdikari" , the concept of standing on ones own feet, should be the main motivation of the government.

Too many acrimonious comments against PMX. I think he is trying to do a difficult job under the circumstances. We must give the man a chance.

If theft of our nation's money and resources is the source or cause of our current economic problems, then take concrete action to stop it and to recover it from whoever are guilty of it without fear or favour. Not selectively or only against political enemies or critics. Smart kleptokrats either just kept quite so as not to attract attention or provoke action against them or they just switch side eg switch their support to PMX and avoided investigation and prosecution against them. Kleptokrats are not stupid. They are survivors,, intelligent and resilient. They are seasoned political street fighters. Its public knowledge that there are several of them now supporting the Madani Govt. in Semananjung Malaysia, Sabah and of course Sarawak.

Problem I see is this. PMX doesn’t have a strong group around him who were high management in various private sector industries, top notch economists etc. He’s surrounded by his loyalists who are mainly political activists their whole life. How do you expect them to come out with ideas to tackle the country’s problems? It’s like asking my officer to become CEO overnight. That’s the problem.

I had commented few times in this forum that the Office of Prime Minister (PMO) of Malaysia is very powerful office. Thanks to Mahathir. However, PM Anwar does not use the power enough to move some of his reform agenda. He can do it without offending his partner, UMNO Baru. Not all the reforms are against UMNO Baru. In fact, he is out of focus, jumping here and there. While he may NOT undertake any reforms at all in next four years in worst case scenario, he may goes down in the history as a PM who promised reforms but failed to deliver them. Future generation may even ask a simple question, "Is he a cheat?" You ask us to vote you to be PM and we gave it to you. Now 'mana' results? He can't even answer this question in straightforward manner. Can he? Yes, history will not be kind to him.

Mr Ong, to put simply, he has no guts to carry out the reforms so needed to save our economy and our country from certain doom. Disappointing all who have voted for PH. What guts has he got to show when MO1’s sentence is reduced with no money paid back from the stolen loot. Like all previous PM after Tun Hussein, he is just another snake oil salesman. Good at talking but poor in implementation.

Anwar is clueless. He only know how to talk. Action he has no idea. Anwar is like someone who claims he is a good musician, when finally given the responsibility, everybody realised he doesnt even know a single musical note.

Anwar , is another politician who only talked , twisted and turned so protect himself from not doing anything to help the current economic problems. Rakyat regretted to vote for PH because whatever reform promised was not implemented.

Anwar waited 25 years to be PM, his lifelong ambition. Now that he is PM by doing a deal with his greatest enemy UMNO, who was responsible for his persecution and incarceration, but also of grand scale Kleptocracy for the past 40 years, Anwar is reneging on reforms. He is always watching his back all the time and not moving ahead with confidence which is hugely disappointing. The impression Anwar gives is that his personal power and position is paramount, and not good governance, justice and the rule of law. These are not the hallmarks of a reformist but instead they are of a conniving and cynical political opportunist.

Ong is correct. Why did they reduce Najibs sentance and DNAA Zahid? It's pathic governance., worse it appeases those who rob the state blind. The Najib decision sealed the fate of Anwar and his administration although he is the only one that doesn't seem to realise it.

You are absolutely right Ong. You have spoken for majority of us. PMX will go around with his rhetoric but nothing will come out of it. He is having problems with UMNO? Than might as well have the opposition and Hadi taking charge. As we will not expect anything from him.

Not only be transparent but be practical. If a goal can't be achieved in short term, tell the truth but there must be some mid term or quarter term achievable goals. Break down the goals so that people can see what u are trying to achieve. Terminate hardcore poverty , something achievable so do it. High income society requires decades to achieve, so break down yearly goal and ultimately 5 yrs or ten yrs targeted goals. If u can't visualise, u can't plan it realistically. Get a professional team to work on it. Ministers are not subject experts on this matter, dont do something U are not sure or knowing.
