Mahathir was not a neutral party as he was responsible for Anwar being jailed the first time but in 2018 but the political deal was that Anwar be granted a pardon in exchange for Bersatu being part of the Opposition coalition, Pakatan Rakyat against "Kleptocrat" Najib. How the wheel of history has turned! Zahid shed tears in front of the UMNO crowd when Najib was jailed. Probably he felt he was going to share the same fate given the over 80 corruption charges he faced.

He will sit in the pardon board, because this has got nothing to do with Najib or good governance or fixing corruption, this is about Anwar's political survival. If Anwar does not pardon Najib, Anwar will lose the support of UMNO and he will be committing political suicide.
