Parliament cannot sit without notice from house leader - Deputy Speaker
Parliament has no authority to convene by itself without notice from the Leader of the House (the prime minister), Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon (above) said.
He said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had to give at least 28 days' notice for Parliament to convene...
In UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson prorogued Parliament. The Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn brought the case to the Supreme Court of 15 eminent Judges. The Supreme Court ruled that the PM's action was unlawful; and and that he must re-convene Parliament meeting.. Parliament is supreme . All Bills , stimulus packages must get approval from Parliament. In Singapore, all the stimulus packages were approved by Parliament. And note also that , in spite of covid-19 pandemic , Singapore held it General Election last year.So where does Malaysia stand ? Note also that the Agong stated that Parliament could be re-convened during an Emergency after meeting both Speakers! So, what is the Deputy trying to say ? .
