Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's efforts to consolidate Perikatan Nasional ahead of the 15th general election have caused a divided Umno, with camps in favour and against the coalition publicly going against each other.

The political realignment has not only shaken Umno but also reverberated across other parties, including PAS, which entered into a political marriage with Umno in 2019, an arrangement they thought could dominate in the 15th general election...

Since the passing of the revered spiritual leader Nik Aziz in 2015, Hadi has ruled PAS with an iron fist, transforming it from an Islamic movement to a materialistic party characterized by racialism and corruption. An immediate casualty of Hadi’s materialistic bent was the purge of its progressive and morally upright faction (which later formed Amanah) and the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat. And now, with the party torn over the loyalty-to-Bersatu issue, coupled with Hadi’s fading health, the party seems to be approaching another crossroad. Will PAS continue to pursue the Hadi line, where power and wealth overrides everything else, or will the spirit of Nik Aziz regain eminence to revive its Islamic idealism and moral pursuits? The answer to that may have a significant impact over the next chapter of the evolving Malaysian political scene.

I really don’t see anyone in PAS being better or worse than Hadi in terms of leadership. If there is a conspiracy to topple him nothing will change. The same Conservative religion based rhetoric will continue. The same arrogance will continue. What will not be the same will be the supporters base which is conditioned to stability and not uncertainty. This may reflect in a poorer showing at future elections.
