TI-M urges rethink of public-private partnerships, GLCs

      Wong Kai HuiPublished: Jan 29, 2019 12:15 PM | Updated: Jan 30, 2019 4:50 AM

Putrajaya has been called on to reconsider public-private partnerships (PPP) and the existence of GLCs to curb corruption.

Speaking at a conference in Kuala Lumpur today, Transparency International Malaysia president Akhbar Satar pointed out that it is unreasonable for the government to fund PPP projects and bear the losses if these fail.

“The capital for PPP projects are given by the government...

The most important thing is that the bosses of the GLCs all are corrupt,  Strong statement but many of us will agree.

Glcs like prasarana cater only to their own pocket’s needs but not to the public‘ s needs!

Fantastic idea but there’s no way TDM and career politicians like Azmin would agree to this. Their livelihood and their supporters depend on PPP and GLCs. If TDM can do that, then many would believe he’s a reformed man and leave a solid legacy not only in Malaysia but the world. If TDM can to do that, the gates of hell in Malaysia will be closed forever. But I don’t think so lah....TDM still need the third national car, still heads Khazanah, still controls Petronas and his buddy Daim has friends and relatives replacing all the GLC heads. What they are taking over to close them down? Wishful thinking...

Nothing wrong with public private partnership. Otherwise if just leave to the private sector, they being profit oriented will squeeze every cent out of the people!

“I think the GLCs and the state-owned enterprises should be closed. How can the government be involved in business? A billion dollar question as billions of taxpayers' monies  have been lost bailing out these public private parnerships.

Government should not be in business, period. This economy is so screwed up because of that.

Unfair to say GLC bosses are all corrupt but the suggestion to shut down (at least downsize) GLC is correct. Hard to think of a world class GLC in Malaysia or anywhere in the world. Apple Nvidia Samsung Fanuc .... are not GLCs. Temasek is the wrong benchmark and the flaw is increasingly clear. Poor pensioners in Singapore have bot seen their CPF monies which have been squandered away

TPI has rated Malaysia 1 up from the previous government. Does that mean TDM and his government is only slightly better than Najib?

Akhbar is absolutely right. A govt has no business to be in business. It is creates all sorts of problems and breeds corruption, laziness as losses are guaranteed by Govt. All GLC heads are former govts and are rewarded for towing the politicians agenda or a political partys agenda. Eg what the hell is the former IGP doing at Pasarana.

The problem is Mr Akhbar...the ones who are corrupted to the core are not the private guys but ..the public ones aka govt servants. Do you know how long JKR takes to complete a road, highway, hospital or school ??? That is tax payer's money. They inflate the project 3xs over and pass to Melayu cronies who Ali Baba it. Even if it is PPP....who determines the specs..or grossly overspec features...it is Mr Govt again. You half the civil service and privatise everything in sight...and the corruption ricebowl is gone for this civil servants...

This is the voice of reasoning we lost it for a long time. GLCs became oligarchs stifling the entrepreneurial spirit of the young ones. The accumulated surplus in billions must be disbursed for the uplifting economic well-being of the B40. Let these young entrepreneurs do the business and government involved in the regulatory issues to create a fair marketplace for the investors.

A government has to make the environment good for businesses. A governmnet should not be doing businesses. TNB,TM etc should be completely privatised. GLCs are spawning grounds for extreme corruption, All of us are aware. Too much fat needs to be trimmed. The civil service is already bloated excessively,GLCs are just 90% civil service with the same mentality

All GLCs are a disgrace. Huge  sums from public funds are paid to entrepreneurs who built up the business empire. GLCs take over and little by little bring the business down. They help Malays without the Malays lifting a finger whomin course of time destroy the geese that lay the golden eggs. It is better to improve the Malays by looking after the women when they are pregnant. Babies who are six months old must be fed a little soft food to supplement the breast milk
