The Senate Reform Working Committee will be submitting a report on how to improve the effectiveness of the Upper House to the Parliamentary Reform Committee chaired by Anwar Ibrahim this March.

Senate Reform Working Committee chairperson Senator Mohd Yusmadi Mohd Yusoff (above) said the main focus of the proposal was to ensure that the Upper House was no longer perceived as merely "a rubber stamp".

The Dewan Negara must have good quality Senators with integrity. The practise of the previous regime is to reward their cronies with a Senatorship. If you listen to their debates and judge their performance, you get the feeling that your (tax payers') hard earned money is not justified to pay these useless Senators their monthly allowance. I hope with the new government, we will get good quality Senators to truly serve the rakyat.
